Legend
This aquarelle shows a body attached to a large column stamped into the earth with the head covered by a piece of material. This is punishment for adultery which was discovered during the expedition by the CEHC as it made its way to Stanley Pool. More than a year later, Edouard Manduau also noticed a body attached to the top of a pole on the road between Manyanga and Leopoldville. This time he believed it was a punishment for theft.
