Legend
Pierre Mulele (1929-1968) was one of the founders of the Parti solidaire africain in the spring of 1959. He took part in the economic Round Table conference of April-May 1960. He was elected as a representative of the Kwilu. He became minister of Education and Fine Arts in the Lumumba government. After the arrest of the latter, he left for Stanleyville where the rebellious Gbenye government sent him to Cairo as a representative. He was deported there in January-February 1962, after which he wandered round Beyrouth, Zurich, Prague and Moscow. He crossed the Congo Stream late September 1968 from Brazzaville to Leopoldstad, but was tortured and killed in the military camp of Kokolo on 2 October.
