Legend
Relations with the catholic church and the Vatican were excellent during the first few years of the Mobutu regime. These relations degenerated however when cardinal Joseph Malula started taking a critical stand against the social wrongs in the country, and Mobutu started giving shape to his policy of authenticity by banning foreign Christian names on 15 February 1972, and integrated all Christian youth movements in the J.M.P.R. on 29 November 1972.
