The Steel Boat Advance. The Advance was made of sections to be easily carried by porters and jointed during the Emin Pasha Expedition. Coloured lanternslide from an engraving.
This lanternslide is part of a set of 63, belonging to Henry M. Stanley (1841-1904). These slides were used to illustrate the many lectures he delivered the world over. Most of them illustrate the traveller journeys from the search for Livingstone in 1871-72 to the rescue of Emin Pasha in 1887-90, and reproduce both engravings and photographs. Denzil M. Stanley, H. M. Stanley's son, donated them to the Museum, in 1954.
