The aquarelles of Gorges Gilson contain information on the political context in which he worked and on the presence of the Congo Free State and its army, known as the Force Publique, in the occupied territories - Uele, Lado and Bahr-El-Ghazal. Among others he painted fortified stations of the State in the Nile region, Ganzio, Doruma, Youbo station (Gindou), Mount Redjaf in the Lado enclave, camps of fortune in the forest and as shown here, the Anglo-Egyptian station of Meridi in Bahr-El-Ghazal. The British and Egyptian flags are clearly visible.
