Willem Jansz. Blaeu’s son Joan in 1662 published the magnificent 11-volume ‘Atlas Maior’ in which we find this copper engraved map of the Congo, one of ca 600 maps of the various parts of the world. The hydrographical system still reflects the accounts of Portuguese explorers of the 16th century.
