Contrary to many amateur or professional artists of her time, Jane Tercafs did not incorporate anecdotal, ethnographic or documentary elements in her works of art. Nor was she influenced by so-called "Mangbetu" art but maintained the special approach of a European sculptor by depicting the persons among whom she lived. She made timeless portraits. Furthermore, she also took documentary and ethnographic notes.
