The fukula drum is an open, upside down conic, single-skinned drum with on the sides a sound hole covered with a membrane from a spider, which functions as a mirliton. The sound box is decorated with a decorative wood engraving such as geometrical lines and zoomorphic figures. This drum is used to accompany dances. The drummer holds the drum with the sound hole towards him so he can influence the loudness during the performance. The mirliton influences the timbre.
