Legend

Individual double-skinned closed cylindrical drum. In West Africa these types of double-skinned drums are used to accompany dances and songs. The drum is part of a percussion ensemble. It has quite a low sound and is usually played by the master drummer. Due to its great dynamic reach, this drum is suitable for indicating various variations within the dance. The drum is played on one side with a wooden stick and is muffled with the flat of the hand on the other side.
