Léon Dardenne tried his utmost to capture the atmosphere of the setting sun. He emphasised the effects of the sun on the mountains as the day drew to an end. Sometimes the colours he used in his paintings were dominant yellows, oranges or a combination of violet and turquoise as is the case here.
