Legend
Landscapes dominate the works produced by Léon Dardenne in the Congo. His discovery of African nature troubled him in various ways. However, it also set him off in an intimate exploration of the landscape in both his writings and his painting. He conjures up the landscape of the south of France, for instance, when staying on the banks of Lake Tanganyika in 1898. This impression persists in the work done in 1900, during the mission to join up the banks of the lake, as this oil painting de Saint-Léon testifies.
