Legend
Léon Dardenne emphasised the brutal aspect of the light of Katanga when it was not raining. The light of the west, especially the autumn light, which highlights all nuances, was something the artist missed. Dardenne particularly loved Tervuren forest where he went to paint. In the Congo, the sun disappeared only to make way for opaque clouds, the precursors of rains and storm. In the dry season, when it rarely rained, the sky remained covered and the light became mat. A sullen climate emanates from his paintings during this season.
