Legend
The portraits made by the European agents of Leopold II often enabled people to put a face to a name, a name that was transmitted by word of mouth such as this chief of Kimpoko. Sometimes Charles Callewaert was inspired by photographs. Certain images in his notebook "Types of the Equator" presents a report with a photo or with the Spanish version of the work of H.M.
