Legend
After having taken part, under the direction of H.M. Stanley, in setting up stations along the river Congo in 1880, Théodore Nilis returned for a third time to the Congo in 1893, as an officer of the Force Publique. He received the order to conduct, in the company of lieutenant de la Kéthulle, an expedition to the north, beyond Bomu. After having set up the station in Adda, he took over temporary command of Ubangi-Bomu and stayed at Imese. At the end of his third term of office in the Congo, he had created six aquarelles and two drawings of the lead mine in Imese which were made in 1896.
