Legend
After two terms spent in the service of Congo Free State in the context of the "Arab campaign" and the advance towards the Nile, the commander Captain Albert Sillye (1867-1929) went back to the Congo to take charge of several assignments. He went to the Upper Ituri and to the lakes region, in particular to lake Kivu, in order to set up a station and to stop any German presence there. During this third term, Albert Sillye sent many illustrated letters to his fiancée, Gabrielle Deman. These are actual comic strips. The captions, often humorous accompanying his drawings, were caricatures.
