President Mobutu, minister Tshisekedi and other politicians attended a celebration of the Eucharist in the cathedral of Mbuji Mayi. They were greeted by Mgr. Joseph Nkongolo who had been appointed as the bishop of Luebo on 1 July 1959. He became the titular bishop of Mbuji Mayi 14 May 1966.

MOBUTU, a été reçu en audience sollennelle par le PAPE PAUL VI, le lundi 2 juin 1968 au Siège à VATICAN. Entouré de la famille MOBUTU, le souverain Pontife écoute le discours de remerciement du Chef de l'Etat.
