Legend
During the Interbellum period, the Union Minière du Haut Katanga built several large-scale labour camps. The company was well aware of the importance of sanitary housing conditions to guarantee the productivity of its worker’s potential and to decrease the high mortality rate. With their straight aligned rows of often very modest dwellings, the UMHK labour camps form a separate world within the colonial space where neatness, order, overview and discipline dominated.
