Led by White Father Victor Roelens, the Baudouinville missionary post, situated by Lake Tanganika and founded round the turn of the century, developed into a major centre of evangelisation. This is indicated by the still impressive neo-Gothic cathedral that dominates the surrounding landscape and can be reached via a long, dead straight road.
